Several dragonflies were fighting over this stick. I guess they all figured it was the best vantage point. I placed the stick there several weeks ago. The one on the left is a male Twelve Spotted Skimmer, the one on the right is a male Westen Pondhawk. Photographed at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in SW Washington State, USA, with an Olympus C-725UZ.

and run free into my mind.

I like when you explain everything in the scene, and now I'm learning some the dragonfly species.

That skimmer is a splendid insect!! I had to stop and count the spots just to make sure there were 12.

So you strategically placed the stick there so you would have a place to photograph the dragonflies. Very good planning.

Let's say that I was hoping they would take a liking to the stick. ;) I've noticed that some dragonflies like a slanted stick that is about two feet tall placed at the edge of the water of a pond, lake, or stream. I placed two sticks at this location, a few feet apart, and they use both of them. They also use some of the sticks that are there naturally.

Thanks for your comment! :)

Now you set an easy chair near the sticks, with a little end table and a battery powered mini fridge with a couple of beers, and your camera.... Sounds awful comfy. :relax:
